See a Victory

See a Victory

See a Victory

Morgan Cockrell Cowell
Worship Leader

I have had the honor of leading worship in church for almost 10 whole years now. It does not feel like that long! I guess time really does fly… when you’re having fun. Or, when you are being used by God to spread the Gospel through worship music. It is my hope and prayer that God will continue to use my life to glorify Him in whatever way He sees fit. And right now, He sees fit through leading the worship ministry here at Voyage Church in Montreal.

I wanted to focus on one of the songs that God put on my heart to use in our Sunday morning setlists for the past couple months. It has become a sort of “anthem” if you will, for a lot of the people in our church. The song is called “See A Victory” by Elevation Worship. The chorus of this song says:

[ “I’m gonna see a victory

  I’m gonna see a victory

For the battle belongs to you, Lord” ]

Throughout the song, the lyrics proclaim that there is power in the mighty name of Jesus! He has already won the battle, and we as believers, know how the story ends already. Amen!

But, just because we know that God has the victory already, does not mean that we won’t still have to face battles. It does mean that God is Sovereign over every battle. There have been many suffering during this time of crisis and sickness in the world today. I pray that this song gives you hope and reminds you that we serve a God who has already won every battle. The Bible says in John 16:33 that we will face trials and have troubles in this world. But we don’t have to worry, because God never leaves nor forsakes us. We can stand firm on His promises. We can cling to Him because He is our Good Father.

This worship song is one that many people in our church body have turned to during times of anxiety. There is a message of peace for our hearts enclosed in the lyrics of this song. Again, back to that same passage in John 16… Jesus says:

“I have told you these things so that in Me, you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Scripture is meant to give us a truer, deeper understanding of who God is. In this passage, we see that He is the giver of peace. I encourage you to draw near to Him, and spend time in His word. Read this passage from John that is the basis of this worship song. Memorize what it says, and meditate on the word of God. Maybe go for a walk around the block and play this song a few times on your phone. This is such a healthy way to relieve stress and give your worries over to God. Sing out to Him! He is so worthy of our praise and worship.

See video below.

As some of you might be thinking, yes worship does not just mean singing! To worship God, is a lifestyle. It is the Christian life. Choosing every day to die to our own self and selfish wants and pleasures. Rather, we choose to surrender to God and ask Him how He wants to use us. Having that mindset, is an act of worship. Giving your time and thoughts in an attitude of prayer and communion with the Lord, that is worship too! Taking time to hide His word in our hearts, loving others, saying no to temptations, … all of these are how we can worship God. He is so loving and merciful. He loved us while we were still sinning against Him. God loves us so much that He sent His only Son to come die on our behalf. Then, He raised Him from the dead to be seated next to God the Father in Heaven. We serve a living God and a living Savior! He deserves all our worship – in every way, shape, and form.

I want to leave you with this passage from Corinthians that encompasses worship being a part of all things we do:

“Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your mind on the realities of Heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Set your mind on things that are above, not on things of this earth. For you died to this way of life, your new life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ is revealed to the whole world, you will share in His glory. Put to death sinful, earthly things. [ … ] Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like Him.”
