Speaker

Notes

    • 1 Thessalonians 4:9-12
      • v 9-10 – We see that the Thessalonians are famous for their brotherly love/ family love. Paul has expressed this throughout the letter. Self-sacrificial love for one another. (verses 11-12 connect this brotherly love with sustenance & charity).
      • They remarkably share wealth and support the other churches of their province!
      • 2 Cor. 8:1-5
        • they gave liberally out of poverty.
    • Essentially we as a church are to be known for taking care of one another, showing familial love through charity.
    • In the church we all have expectations from God in how we live.
      • Paul warns against patron/client relationship.
    • We have nothing to fear in following God’s command of charity. This an echo of Christ’s giving of His life for our sins. If we come to God in faith then He will indeed speak this truth in our hearts. Don’t shut out His voice.
    • God is calling us to hold loosely our possessions and give sacrificially to help our brothers and sisters – and not only these but our neighbours as well!

Reflection:

What is one thing we can do to give more to one another? Pray over this with God and commit to make this a permanent change in your life.
